IPME
PME stands for Internet Protocol Messaging. Using the success of iMessage as the baseline desirable experience, AT&T wanted to create a messaging system that utilized the data network to provide a richer experience for users. Instead of it being its own app like: What's App, Kakao Talk, GroupMe, etc. The richer messaging experience would be "baked" into the phone. This would enable a much more natural experience for users, plus additional functionality like: istyping, delivery notification, larger files, and range of other filetypes. Additionally they wouldn't have to create an account as it would be tied to a customers mobile phone number.
iMessage was definitely and influence and my role was to represent the different states a conversation could have with IPME:
Both parties are IP messages connected.
One person in the conversation is back on the MMS and TXT messaging network, because they are out of range.
